Open Campus is adding three newsrooms to its Local Network, continuing to strengthen beat reporting about the role of colleges in cities and states across America with three full-time, higher-ed reporters on the ground in the communities they serve.

The new partner newsrooms are:

The partnership with Centro de Periodismo Investigativo marks Open Campus’s first collaboration with a Spanish-language newsroom. Open Campus is now hiring a bilingual editor to support the work of CPI and deepen connections to Spanish-speaking audiences. Learn more and apply here.

The San Antonio Report is Open Campus’s fifth partner newsroom based in Texas. These five newsrooms function as a collaborative known as Open Campus Texas, which is elevating coverage of higher ed in a state with more than 2 million college students. Apply here to work with us in San Antonio.

The partnership with Wisconsin Watch will further deepen our reporting across the Midwest, joining our Chicago reporter at WBEZ, our Indiana reporter at Mirror Indy, and our Ohio reporter at Signal Cleveland. The Wisconsin reporter will focus specifically on workforce training and job pathways post-high school. Apply for the role here.

Higher-ed reporters at these newsrooms will become part of the Open Campus Local Network. The new partnerships mean the network now supports 20 reporters in 17 newsrooms, reaching more than 18 million readers each month. Open Campus local reporters are employed by their newsroom and receive coaching, training, and support from the Open Campus team of subject-matter experts.

Open Campus reporters cover the role higher ed institutions play in the life and health of a place, including how colleges drive economic opportunity, advance social mobility, and foster healthy families. And, the reporters hold institutions accountable to these public missions.
