Open Campus has added Charlottesville Tomorrow to its Local Network — making it our 17th partner newsroom.
The 20-year-old nonprofit is a community-driven news organization that is focused on connecting readers to each other and the issues that affect them most. The partnership combines Open Campus’s deep expertise with Charlottesville Tomorrow’s robust community ties.
Charlottesville Tomorrow’s new public institutions reporter, Allie Pitchon, joins the beat at a critical time for Charlottesville and central Virginia, as the Trump administration is reshaping policies from immigration to healthcare. Recently University of Virginia President Jim Ryan resigned at the end of June following pressure from President Donald Trump, the latest example of how the administration is challenging colleges and universities around the country. (Tell Charlottesville Tomorrow how the tumult at UVa affects you using this form.)
As a member of Open Campus’s Local Network, Pitchon will receive regular editorial coaching from our team of expert editors. Open Campus has 20 reporters around the country who cover the role higher-ed institutions play in the life and health of a place, including how they drive economic opportunity and advance social mobility.
Pitchon is a Report for America fellow. She has worked as a reporter in Argentina, at the Miami Herald, The New York Times, and a local USA TODAY paper in Virginia.
