Open Campus is excited to add Berkeleyside — a nonprofit digital news site reporting on Berkeley, Calif. and the East Bay — to its network of partner newsrooms in 18 places around America.
Berkeleyside is currently hiring a higher-ed reporter to cover UC Berkeley and higher education in the East Bay. With the support of editors at Open Campus and Berkeleyside, this reporter will do groundbreaking enterprise and accountability reporting focused on one of the world’s top research universities, at a time when such institutions are under significant financial and regulatory pressure from the Trump administration.
The reporter will also cover the four campuses of Peralta Community College District, Northeastern University Oakland (formerly Mills College) and West Contra Costa College. And, the reporter will examine whether these local colleges drive economic opportunity and advance social mobility, particularly for low-income students. Learn more and apply here.
As part of the Open Campus Local Network, the reporter will receive regular editorial coaching from our team of expert editors. And, they’ll learn from the network of 21 higher-ed reporters we coach around the country.
Berkeleyside is Open Campus’s second partner newsroom in California, a state that educates 12% of the country’s college students. Open Campus also partners with CalMatters on coverage of community colleges and workforce training.
